CGT Mate is a free calculator for working out the capital gains on your Australian share trades. It is built around a simple idea: your financial data should stay with you. This page explains what that means in practice.
The short version
By default, everything happens in your browser. Your trades are read and calculated on your own device. They are not sent to us, and we do not store them. There is no account to create and no sign-in.
Files and trades you enter
When you upload a file or paste text, it is processed on your device to produce your capital gains summary and CSV. That data is not transmitted to our servers, and we keep no copy of it. Closing the tab clears it.
The optional AI reader
If your statement is in a format the built-in parsers do not recognise, you may be offered an optional AI reader. This is the only feature that sends data off your device, and only if you explicitly choose it. When you do, the text of that one statement is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to extract the trades, and the result is returned to your browser. We do not store the statement or its contents. If you do not use the AI reader, nothing leaves your browser.
The developer API
CGT Mate offers an API endpoint for developers. Data sent to the API is processed to return a result and is not stored.
Analytics and cookies
We use Vercel web analytics, which is privacy-friendly and cookieless, to count aggregate visits (such as page views, approximate region, referrer and device type). It sets no cookies, does not track you across other sites, and does not identify you. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell data. Your trade data is never sent to analytics or anywhere else; it stays in your browser.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated.
