General information only, not tax advice
CGT Mate is a calculator that helps you work out the capital gains on your Australian share trades. It provides general information only. It is not tax, financial or legal advice, it is not a registered tax agent, and it does not provide tax agent services. For advice about your own circumstances, speak to a registered tax agent or accountant, or see the Australian Taxation Office.
An accelerator, not an oracle
CGT Mate does the tedious arithmetic for straightforward buys and sells. It does not silently guess things a statement cannot show. Where something needs a human, it tells you plainly. In particular, it does not automatically handle dividend reinvestment (DRP) parcels, exchange-traded fund and managed fund cost base adjustments, or corporate actions such as splits, mergers and returns of capital. It also cannot see trades from a broker whose records you have not provided. You are responsible for including these and for checking the result.
No warranty
CGT Mate is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. While we work hard to be accurate, we do not guarantee that every result is correct or suitable for your situation. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the tool. Always check the figures, and confirm them with your accountant or the ATO, before you lodge your return.
The optional AI reader
If you use the optional AI reader to interpret an unrecognised statement, treat its output with extra care and check every trade it produces, as automated reading can make mistakes.
Acceptable use
Please use CGT Mate for its intended purpose. Do not attempt to overload, disrupt or abuse the service.
